All desktop software is boomer software. Only unc uses a desktop, and increasingly laptops are also unc tech

You should be required to own a computer with a desktop operating system to post in /g/ - Technology

Directory Opus. Weird emacses (the All-in-One programs). Sketchy Windows Share-Ware in general.
Things 'Free', 'Pro', 'Professional', 'Premium', 'Suite', 'Center', 'Edition', 'Ultra', 'Max', 'Genius', 'Express', 'Anywhere' suffix and 'Fast', 'Power' prefix in their name
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 07:21:22
unfortunately almost all channels are encrypted here, save for state television.
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 07:22:30
>'Fast', 'Power' prefix
along with 'Total', 'Ultra', 'Mega', 'Double', 'Rapid'.
That's how you somehow know it's shitware.

The arch-boomer software is undoubtedly emacs
Double commander is still useful nowadays but it’s pretty boomer as well
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 08:49:49
For me, it's Total Commander

oh wow, I haven't seen ARJ in decades
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 13:04:25
I use both copy/paste and F5/F6 in FAR, don't see any problem with either
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 13:05:17
cp file.txt ~/path/to/another/folder
with autocomplete you do this in 7 seconds, with macros you do this in 1 second
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 13:08:20
>I use both copy/paste
yeah can't wrap my mind around it, I'm gen-x tho.
Never in my life did use copy/paste with a file.
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 13:11:59
It could automatically split archives into multiple files so super easy to handle big files with bunch of floppies.
zip could no do that at the time but zip was faster and had better compression ratio.
once software distribution moved from floppies to cd's arj died.

only someone with very low intelligence could come up with an interface like that
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 13:18:53
have you tried working instead of being a child?
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 14:59:14
>have you tried working
no, pay for my tendies and fuck off
Anonymous · reply · 2026-07-21 15:03:15
I took a look at PKZIP and it does have an option to span over multiple disks, but it requires archiving onto said disks directly, which is more awkward than being able to specify volume size and then copy the resulting pieces to disks separately.
